Pioneers Pick Up First Win in Florida- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 1-27-23

Crowley's Ridge traveled via the jet stream to Temple Terrace, Florida for the CAC classic hosted at Florida College. The Lady Pioneers entered today 1-2 in conference play after defeating conference opponent Bacone College with a nail-biter victory last Saturday, January 21st. CRC would control the game against Florida National until a 2nd half rally from Florida National would see the game change tide. The Pioneers wouldn't crack under the pressure as they stood tall, retaking the lead and claiming their first conference win of the weekend.

The Pioneers claimed first blood after Brinley Morgan drove to the basket and laid one off the glass putting the Pioneers up 2-0. Florida National answered with a 6-0 run reclaiming the lead, but 4 three-pointers in the first quarter, with Hunter Gibson making of them kept the Pioneers ahead 16-13 after the quarter ended. CRC held the three-ball going by rolling into the second quarter with Octavia hitting her second three in a row at the 8:55 mark and then matching quarter one with three more. Octavia Lowery bucketed 10 points this quarter. Pioneers enter the break-up, 36-23. Quarter three Florida University went on a 15-4 run making things even at 40-40 with 58 seconds left in the quarter. Time would expire while the score was tied bringing on the final quarter with the teams at a standstill. The Conquistadors claimed the lead first in the 4th by bucketing two baskets off the start at the 9:47 and 9:08 marks. CRC would turn the tide back to their shores with the kick-start of two shots from the charity stripe from Lindsey Browning making the score 48-46 CRC. What would really light the fire in CRC would be Travia Woodruff. Woodruff followed up Browning's 2 points will a three-pointer and then a layup pushing the scoring run to 7. Octavia Lowery would grab a bucket at the 3:37 mark completing the 9-0 run. The Pioneers would keep the lead and grab their first win in Florida 62-56.
