CROWLEY'S RIDGE COLLEGE: Pioneers Find Revenge at Home

Pioneers Find Revenge at Home- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 10/25/22

CRC Pioneer Volleyball hosted the Lady Patriots of Baptist Bible College in their second to last home game of the season where they found revenge with a three set sweep victory over the Lady Patriots. CRC traveled to Springfield, MO earlier this season on August, 25th where Baptist Bible defeated Crowley's Ridge 3 sets to 1. Tonight the Pioneers won three consecutively, sweeping Baptist Bible. Sets went as follows: 26-24 CRC, 25-22 CRC, and 25-11 CRC.

Set one, Baptist Bible, would test the CRC defense. With a tight set, there were several long rallies that Fr. Kinley Matlock played a huge role in keeping alive. CRC would see its momentum change after one of those rallies ended with Alexis Weirich getting a solo block that would give the Pioneers a 12-9 lead. The Patriots would find a way to stay in the set until back to back kills from Jadyn Hesse and Emi Elms would force a Patriot timeout as they trailed 17-20. When play resumed Paige Glenn would go back to back with kills all but ending the set until a late rally by the Patriots would see the set tied 24-24 forcing head coach Carissa Winn to call a timeout. This time when play resumed CRC would win the next two points with the assistance of a kill from Alexis Weirich. CRC takes set one 26-24.

Set two, CRC would open with a 5-1 run with kills from Alexis Weirich and Paige Glenn. Topping off this run with a serve that would find the gaps in the Patriot defense to reach the hardwood for an ace would be Brooklynn Passmore. The Pioneer attack would continue to steam roll, and before long the 'Neers found themselves up 17-9. As CRC looked to put the Patriots away, Baptist Bible would rouse a second late rally going on a 6-1 run cutting the score to a 18-15 CRC lead. This string of points by the Patriots forced another Pioneer timeout. Back in play, Crowley's Ridge would scrap with the Patriots until Paige Glenn and Alexis Weirich teamed up for a block that ended the set with CRC on top 25-22.

Set three, the Lady Pioneers would find their slowest start of the match. The Patriots took a 3-1 lead over CRC before the Pioneer defense would shut down the attack. Kinley Matlock stepped behind the service line and coaxed a 7-0 run from her teammates, including a rare Emi Elms assist to Hannahn Halverson for the point and kill. Halverson would produce a second kill creating a 11-4 lead and forcing a Baptist Bible timeout. When play resumed CRC kept the burners on high with Brooklynn Passmore behind the service line. The Lady Pioneers would produce their second 7-0 run of the set including back to back aces from Passmore. CRC would win set three 25-11.

Leaders:

Hannah Halverson and Paige Glenn led in kills (8). Jadyn Hesse led in assists (27). Kinley Matlock led in digs (20), followed by Hannah Halverson (13), and Jadyn Hesse (10).

Jadyn Hesse would finish with a double double.
