Pioneer Volleyball traveled to Conway, AR to take on the Lady Mustangs of CBC. The Pioneers, coming off back to back wins at home, sought to extend their win streak to 3 but would be facing a tough matchup against a challenging CBC.
Set one, CRC fell behind early. The Lady Pioneers struggled to get things going on their side and CBC answered with a fast and hard game plan which jumped on top of the Pioneers 10-4. CRC would rally back, but it wouldn't be enough as CBC would drive the gap farther with a 14-8 score. The gap would hold and CBC would take the set 25-19.
Set two, CRC would play their best set of the night. Looking to answer the Mustangs after a set one loss, the Lady Pioneers would come out with some fight. They jumped ahead of the Mustangs 5-2 early with help from sophomore Paige Glenn and junior Hannah Halverson. CBC would go on a run and tie the game, 7-7, and then would make the Pioneers work for every point from then on out. With a back and forth set, the Pioneers found themselves in a 19-19 game. CRC would then muster 2 consecutive points forcing a Mustang timeout. When play resumed each team would trade a point until CRC would put up a 4-0 run making it all but over with a 24-20 lead. The Mustangs would rally and with a 4-0 run of their own tying the game 24-24. With the help of two spectacular digs by junior Heather Conaway, it would be enough for CRC to take the match 27-25.
Crowley's Ridge College would carry the energy from the previous set into set three, but would be met with a wall of Mustangs falling behind 10-3 forcing a CRC timeout. CRC would find a couple of points after play resumed, but could not match the intensity of CBC and fell behind deeper, 16-5. No matter what the Pioneers tried they couldn't link any streaks together and the Mustangs would take it 25-14.
Set four, CRC faced a steep hill ahead to climb back on top being down 2 sets to 1 which CBC knew. The Pioneers came out the strongest they had all night with an immediate 4-0 run to start the set. The Mustangs wouldn't be shaken by this and would keep the throttle on high. Going on an 8-0 run, CBC would take the lead 10-5. CRC would continue to find points in between the Mustangs rallys but it wouldn't be enough as the Mustangs would take the set and match with a 25-14 score over CRC.
