CROWLEY'S RIDGE COLLEGE: Pioneers Seeking Rhythm

Crowley's Ridge College traveled to Springfield, MO yesterday to take on Baptist Bible College in their second game of the season. Looking to bounce back after a season debut loss to Lyon, CRC hit the court with an attack first and attack often mentality. In set one, the Pioneers stuck to that first winning the first point of the match but would be quickly answered by Baptist Bible with three consecutive points of their own. The Pioneers battled back and kept set one within reach until Baptist Bible went on two hot streaks. One 5 point run and one 6 point run eventually creating distance between the two teams and taking the first set 25-14.

In set two, the Pioneers seemed to have learned something from the Patriots. They decided to give the hosting team a little taste of their own medicine by rallying together a couple of hot streaks themselves. CRC ran away with set two with a score of no other than 25-14. Now being tied with one set each, both teams looked for leverage in the third set. Unfortunately for the Pioneers, even striking first couldn't deter the Patriots. Baptist Bible went on another hot streak coming back from a 14-9 deficit to taking the lead 15-14. Using that leverage the Patriots would go on and take the set 25-20.

Now trailing 2-1 the Pioneers needed a momentum change but the Patriots kept the pedal to the metal keeping just out of reach until CRC Head Coach Carissa Winn called a timeout down 18-13. Whatever was said in the timeout sure worked, for Crowley's Ridge rallied and forced Baptist Bible to call a timeout of their own pausing the game with a one point lead of 20-19. When the game resumed the Patriots made some changes of their own which sealed the deal. Baptist Bible would take the set and the match, defeating CRC 25-21 in set four.

The Pioneers look to find their first season win next Tuesday, August 30th, with their home opener.
