As our younger citizens return to school next week we wanted to remind everyone of the law regarding stopping for school buses. When on an undivided road way regardless of the number of lanes all motorists MUST come to a complete stop while a school bus is loading or offloading riders. This means both the traffic from behind and the traffic approaching from the front must stop no closer than 30 feet from the bus. Traffic must remain stopped until the bus is finished loading or offloading passengers AND the bus is back in motion.
When the bus is stopped on a roadway divided by a barrier or an unpaved median with a width of at least 20 feet the traffic behind the bus must stop but the traffic on the other side may proceed with caution.
