Crowley's Ridge College issued the following announcement on Feb. 21.
The Crowley's Ridge College Lady Pioneers picked up their 14th victory, setting the 2021-22 team as the squad with the most wins in program history. With the regular season in the books, the Lady 'Neers posted their first winning record in the regular season in over 20 years, finishing with a 14-13 mark. Leading wire-to-wire, CRC bested the Ecclesia (Ark.) Lady Royals 76-52.
The Lady Pioneers (14-13, 4-5 CAC) hit the ground running, with all five starters getting into the scorebook in the first quarter. Madison Sellars' six-point opening quarter led the girls in green as they led after the first frame 19-11. As a team, CRC shot 50% from the floor.
The second quarter saw Claire Bellers begin to light it up from beyond the arc - going 3-for-3 from deep to bucket 11 points in the quarter. Bellers would eventually tie the Crowley's Ridge single-game 3pt field-goal record, tallying eight long balls. The Lady Pioneer defense held Ecclesia (7-21) to nine points in the second quarter, lurching ahead to a 42-20 lead at the break.
As if three 3-pointers in a quarter was not enough, Bellers came out of the locker room by hitting four of her nine attempts from long range in the third quarter. In the meantime, the Lady Pioneer defense stiffened to hold the Lady Royals to a 3-14 mark from the floor in the third quarter.
Letting the bench get valuable playing time in the fourth quarter, the Lady Pioneers would cruise to a 76-52 victory.
Bellers went 8-for-11 from long range to help her to a 27-point total. N'Kyah Edwards followed with a 12-point game, with Sellars' 10 points rounding off the double-digit scoring. Sellars and Jamerria Johnson both pace the Lady Pioneers with nine boards each.
