CITY OF WEINER: City Public Notice and Update

Update

City of Weiner issued the following announcement on Feb. 2.

It’s a new year with new opportunities and some familiar issues we need to address. Work continues on improving the quality of our water while facing substantial repairs to our existing equipment. Juggling these two factors while staying within budgetary restraints is difficult at best but we are getting it done. Many of our streets were repaved last year with further repair contracts in place as soon as the weather warms up a bit. A new request is being made to State Street Aid and we should see those in the near future.

We are also trying to make the city look better in an attempt to attract new residences and business. This involves cleaning up problem properties as well as abandoned and vacant properties. We have begun condemning unsafe and abandoned properties. These properties will be addressed from the most offensive to less offensive. If you own one of these properties, you have options which include remediating the property yourself or donate the property to the city where it will be cleaned up and sold to a qualified developer/builder for the purpose of building new homes.

The city continues to face the problem of loose dogs and cats. There are ordinances in place requiring pet owners to keep their dogs on a leash or otherwise restrained and not allowed to run free in the city. Many pet owners have already been cited for violating this ordinance while other people have relinquished their pets to be re-homed because they could no longer care for them. The issue of farm animals/livestock also needs to be addressed. The city has ordinances regulating the type and number of animals allowed in the city limits. It is highly recommended you find out if you are in compliance with the ordnance if you have any animals that are restricted in the city limits.

We are all responsible for the appearance of the city and together we can make Weiner a place we are all proud to call home.
