Crowley's Ridge College issued the following announcement Jan. 28.
Crowley's Ridge College women's basketball dropped their first game in southern Florida to Florida National University Conquistadors 74-65. FNU put up 71 total shots in the contest.
The first half belonged to the Lady Pioneers (9-11, 2-3 CAC) who put up 19 points in the opening quarter. Madison Sellars had the hot hand in the first 10 minutes scoring seven points, including a 4-4 start at the charity stripe.
Florida National (4-12, 1-0 CAC) countered with a shotgun approach, attempting 20 3-pointers in the first half alone. The Conquistadors found the hoop four times out of those 20 from deep. CRC led at the break 36-31.
Both teams had their best scoring in the third quarter. Crowley's Ridge had seven different players find the scorebook in the quarter, totaling 20 points. On the other end, FNU went 4-9 from deep to take a brief lead at the end of the quarter - but a Kiyuanna Foster jumper gave the Lady 'Neers a 46-44 lead moving to the fourth quarter.
The tides completely shifted in the fourth quarter where the Conquistadors outscored the Lady Pioneers 20-9 to finalize a 74-65 victory.
Madison Sellars completed a 22-point, 11 rebound effort to notch her fourth double-double of the season. Lindsey Browning followed with 10 points.
