Crowley's Ridge College issued the following announcement on Sept. 21.
Crowley's Ridge College volleyball makes it three consecutive victories in a row after defeating their rivals of Williams Baptist (Ark.) University in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-20).
The opening set caused several cases of whiplash, as the Eagles (0-12) jumped ahead to a 6-0 lead. Crowley's Ridge (4-5) was able to side out and send Kaitlyn Perkins to the service line, where she continued her hot hand, firing back-to-back aces to bring the Lady 'Neers back within one, trailing 7-6. From there, the dogfight was nearly trading serves every rally until Hannah Halverson settled into a groove, coaxing five points from her Lady Pioneers from behind the line to give the guests the opening set victory 25-21.
A tough battle the entire match, Crowley's Ridge's largest lead in the second set was seven before the hosting Eagles turned around the score to take a 15-14 lead late. A Brooklynn Passmore kill set up set point for CRC eventually falling on a WBU service error giving Crowley's Ridge a 2-0 set advantage after a 25-20 win.
The tightest contest of the match was in the third set, with no lead extending beyond three points until the final two rallies. Seven ties in the set forced both teams to fight to the finish line before Emi Elms decided it was time to go home by slamming down her sixth kill to win the set and the match 25-20.
Freshman Paige Glenn joined Passmore's match-high seven kill mark. Reigning CAC setter of the week Jadyn Hesse showed exactly why she won the award with a 21-assist effort.
Words from Winn: "The girls are having a lot of fun right now and we are really starting to mesh as a team."
