Crowley's Ridge College issued the following announcement on Sept. 3.
In a mirror image of Tuesday's day, Crowley's Ridge College volleyball won the opening set before dropping three consecutive sets to Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University, falling in four sets (25-19, 10-25, 17-25, 12-25).
The Lady Pioneers (1-1) opened the match strong with an 11-kill opener, boasting a 26.7% hitting percentage. Jadyn Hesse worked as the server on a 4-0 run to give CRC a 13-9 advantage over the Trojans (1-5). Olivia Deckelman's kill sealed the first set 25-19.
HLGU came storming out of the intermission, rattling off six unanswered points and forcing an early timeout from the girls in green. That momentum never ceased as the hosts ended the set on a 10-2 run to end the set with a 25-10 win to tie the match at one set apiece.
Crowley's Ridge showed more fight in the third set; however, Hannibal-LaGrange's six unanswered runs early in the set proved to be too big of a deficit to overcome as the Lady Pioneers fell 25-17.
Unable to secure their footing, CRC fell in the final set 25-12 to give HLGU their first win on the season.
As a team, the Lady Pioneers gave away 25 points off of attack errors, ending the match in the red with a -0.8% mark.
Deckelman, Hannah Halverson, and Brooklynn Passmore each totaled five kills to lead the green and black offense. Kaitlyn Perkins earned 14 digs on the back row.
