WASHINGTON—Representative Rick Crawford (AR-01) issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s rebuke of President Biden’s executive order to transfer student debt from those who took out loans to all taxpayers, including those who never attended college or already paid off their loans:

“On June 30 decision affirms the obvious – that the president is not a monarch, but rather an executive with powers limited by our Constitution. Even Nancy Pelosi agreed in 2021 when she said, “People think that the President of the United States has the power for debt forgiveness. He does not…That has to be an act of Congress.’” Whether it be mandatory COVID vaccinations or canceling loans, presidential powers are limited by the Constitution because our Founders had foresight to protect our nation from the inevitable oppression that comes when power is consolidated in a single ruler.”
