The Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office announced on March 9 that a shooting on Tulot Road is being investigated as a domestic violence incident. The event occurred in the early morning hours of March 7, when deputies and Trumann Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting involving a female victim.
According to the sheriff’s office, law enforcement arrived at the scene around 4:45 a.m. and found a woman outside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel transported her to a local hospital for treatment.
During their response, officers located a male suspect deceased inside a vehicle near the residence. The suspect appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Further investigation identified the suspect as Drew Joiner, 28, of Trumann, who had shot Ashley Williams, 30, also of Trumann, at least six times.
Authorities said that after shooting Williams, Joiner drove away from the scene but stopped his vehicle on Tulot Road as officers arrived. Deputies and Trumann officers initiated a felony stop and gave commands to Joiner but received no response. They used less-lethal bean bags to break the glass of the vehicle before approaching and discovering that Joiner was deceased.
The sheriff’s office reported that Williams’ condition has improved from critical to stable. Sheriff Kevin Molder said the investigation is ongoing.
