Crowley’s Ridge College ended their time at “The Show” Classic with a matchup against the Red Wolves of Indiana University East. The big break the Pioneers have long been searching for finally came through. The Pioneers entered the midway break, and the end of time regulation all knotted up with the Red Wolves. CRC entered overtime for the first time this season, and the Pioneers endurance outlasted the Red Wolves holding them off with a 77-75 victory.
J.D. Smith and Bo Roberson would do the heavy lifting for the Pioneer attack. Both Pioneers ended the first half in double digits with Smith leading the way with 16 points, and Roberson chasing with 13. The Pioneers entered the intermission tied 31-31 with Indiana University East.
In the second half, CRC looked to end the game with a 7 point lead late in the half, but back to back threes by the Red Wolves would take the chance away. IUE took a 66-68 lead over the Pioneers with 26 seconds left in the game. No worries here, as Bo Roberson drove down the court, and tied the game with 15 seconds left on the clock with a layup. Time would expire as neither team would be able to muster one more point, and the game would enter overtime.
No team could pull ahead as each one found a way to claw back. What would make the final difference in the matchup was a foul Alex Mero drew from the Red Wolves after a steal. Mero made one free throw with just under two seconds in overtime to secure a thrilling overtime win, 77-75, to end their time in Kingsport,Tenn.
JD Smith led CRC with 26 points on four for nine three pointers. Bo Roberson added 23 points in the win.
