Crowley’s Ridge College issued the following announcement on Feb. 21.
Three student-athletes from Crowley’s Ridge College earned Continental Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors. Phoenix Beal was tabbed as baseball Hitter of the Week, Lindsey Browning was honored as women’s basketball Player of the Week, while Layne Tedder was named softball Hitter of the Week.
Phoenix Beal received the Hitter of the Week award after driving in 10 runs and having all four of his hits go for extra bases in a doubleheader split last week against NCAA Division II Lane (Tenn.) College. The catcher hit two doubles and connected on a three-run homer during the two games.
The final Continental Athletic Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week award for the 2021-22 season has gone to Crowley’s Ridge College freshman Lindsey Browning after a strong conclusion to the regular season.
The forward averaged 16.5 points per game in a pair of victories for the Pioneers. The Viola native made 56.5% of her field goals for the week. Browning started the week by scoring 20 points and grabbing 13 rebounds last Thursday in an 83-81 overtime victory against Welch (Tenn.) College.
The freshman helped Crowley’s Ridge post a 13-13 regular-season record. She led the team by scoring 10.7 points per contest and was second by averaging seven rebounds per game. Crowley’s Ridge is the No. 6 seed for the 2022 CAC Women’s Basketball tournament, which is set to begin quarterfinal play Friday, February 26, from Iowa Wesleyan University in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
