Tuition rates for Arkansas residents attending Arkansas State University rose by 4.6% during the 2022-23 school year, based on the most recent figures, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Arkansas residents paid $7,456 to attend the public four-year university this year, an increase of $326 from the $7,130 charged in the 2021-22 academic year.

Non-resident students faced tuition fees 78.5% higher than those for residents in 2022-23, amounting to $13,312. This represents a 4.8% increase from the previous year’s $12,698.

Approximately 81% of the undergraduate student body at Arkansas State University are Arkansas residents. Students from other states make up about 12%, while international students account for 7%.

Data indicates that 96% of full-time undergraduates who enrolled in 2022-23 received some form of financial aid. A total of 1,173 students were awarded grants or scholarships totaling $12.6 million, and 564 students obtained loans exceeding $3.2 million.

Across the entire undergraduate population, 5,891 students received grants or scholarships amounting to $56.6 million. Additionally, 3,472 students secured federal student loans totaling $24 million.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
