Arkansas State women’s tennis earns sweep over Alabama State

The Arkansas State women’s tennis team secured a 4-0 victory against Alabama State on Thursday at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center in Montgomery, Alabama.

With this win, Arkansas State improves its season record to 7-5 and has now won seven of its last nine matches. The team has also recorded four sweeps during this stretch.

In doubles play, Anna Grigoreva and Carla Muro Castellvi earned a 6-1 win on court one. Although Hanmare McAslin and Meghna Arun Kumar lost their match on court three with a score of 6-4, Sarah Millard and Helena Bueno clinched the doubles point for Arkansas State by winning 6-4 on court two.

Millard extended the lead for Arkansas State with a 6-2, 6-1 singles victory over Petrovic on court six. Grigoreva followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court one. Arun Kumar secured the overall match for the Red Wolves by defeating Campagna 6-4, 6-4 on court four.

At the time the match was decided, McAslin was in a third set tiebreak (6-1, 2-6, 1-1), Bueno led her opponent 6-0, 5-5 on court three, and Muro Castellvi was ahead 7-5, 4-3 on court five.

Arkansas State is scheduled to play its next match against Wichita State in Indian Wells on Friday, March 13.
