Arkansas State women’s tennis falls to Tulsa in close match

The Arkansas State women’s tennis team narrowly lost to Tulsa with a final score of 4-3 in a match held on Sunday afternoon in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Tulsa secured the doubles point by winning matches on courts two and three. Helena Bueno and Anna Grigoreva were defeated 6-1 on court two, while Hanmare McAslin and Sarah Millard lost 6-2 on court three. The pairing of Lilly Cvanciger and Carla Muro Castellvi was tied 3-3 on court one when Tulsa clinched the doubles point.

In singles play, Arkansas State evened the score when Meghna Arun Kumar defeated Alice Baba 7-5, 6-2 on court five. Grigoreva then gave the Red Wolves a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Isabella Basson on court two. However, Tulsa’s Carolina Alonso won against McAslin in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) on court three to tie the match again.

Tulsa moved ahead after Maria Santos beat Cvanciger in another three-set match (6-4, 4-6, 6-1) on court one. Bueno brought Arkansas State back to level terms with a comeback victory over Coral Valle (2-6, 6-4, 7-6 [3]) on court four. The deciding match took place on court six where Erin McKenzie edged out Muro Castellvi in three sets (7-5, 4-6, 6-4), giving Tulsa the overall win.

Arkansas State now holds a season record of five wins and five losses. The team will travel to face Lipscomb for their next match scheduled for Wednesday at noon before concluding the week with a contest at Alabama State on Thursday.
