Arkansas State University’s track and field team will begin competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 16, followed by hosting the Arkansas State Alumni Classic at its home complex the next day.
The event marks a busy period for the Red Wolves, with distance runners opening their campaign in Azusa, California. Carlo Martinez-Jaramillo, who is the reigning Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Men’s Runner of the Year, is set to compete in the 10,000 meters starting at 10:10 a.m. The majority of Arkansas State’s roster will participate in their annual home meet one day later.
A wide range of Division I teams are scheduled to compete alongside Arkansas State at both events. At the Bryan Clay Invitational, universities such as Air Force, Alabama, Arizona, Baylor, BYU, Oregon and Stanford are among those listed. For the Arkansas State Alumni Classic in Jonesboro, schools including Bethel University and Harding University will join.
The Red Wolves have recently achieved notable results. Sophomore Syriah Boyd set a new program record in the women’s 400 meters with a time of 53.45 seconds during her second-place finish at the Joe Walker Invite on April 11. This surpassed Charmisha Morrow’s previous school record from 2011.
From April 9-11 at meets in Azusa and Oxford (Mississippi), Arkansas State athletes won six events and established twenty-six personal bests over three days of action. In total, Red Wolves athletes finished inside the top ten in thirty-eight out of forty-three events contested across both meets.
In national squad rankings released by USTFCCCA as of April 15, Arkansas State holds three top ten positions: third nationally for men’s shot put squad (total distance: 71.94 meters), fifth for men’s discus throw (213.94 meters), and seventh for men’s pole vault team (total height: 20.40 meters). These #EventSquad rankings reflect overall team depth by combining performances from each team’s leading athletes.
