Arkansas State University’s baseball team defeated Oral Roberts University 7-0 in the series finale on March 8 at Chapman Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The win brings Arkansas State’s record to 12-5 for the season. The game was highlighted by sophomore infielder Lane Walton, who drove in three runs and scored twice. Walton went three-for-three at the plate and drew a walk during his four appearances.
Walton opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning, giving Arkansas State an early lead. The teams remained scoreless until the sixth inning, when Walton walked and later scored after bases were loaded and a two-out walk brought him home again. In the seventh inning, Walton hit a double that allowed Cougar Cooke to score, then reached home himself following a throwing error by Oral Roberts’ shortstop.
Ashton Quiller contributed two runs batted in with a single up the middle during the eighth inning. Starting pitcher Dylan Farley threw four shutout innings before Tyler Weimer entered as relief at the start of the fifth. Weimer allowed only one hit and one walk for the rest of the game, retiring five of six batters faced to close out Oral Roberts’ chances for a comeback. Weimer earned his second win of the season while Conner Johnson took the loss for Oral Roberts.
Arkansas State will next play against Little Rock on Tuesday, March 10 at Gary Hogan Field. The game will be available on Summit League Network as well as through radio broadcasts on EAB Red Wolves Sports Network and via mobile app.
