Arkansas State University’s baseball team completed a two-game sweep over Louisiana Tech with an 8-2 victory on Wednesday evening at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston, Louisiana. The Red Wolves improved their season record to 11-3, while Louisiana Tech fell to 8-6.

The Red Wolves opened the scoring in the second inning when Cason Campbell stole home following a pickoff attempt at first base. In the third inning, Lane Walton hit a home run to right field, doubling Arkansas State’s lead. Later in the same inning, Evan Griffis doubled and scored on an RBI single from Aidan Houseworth. Louisiana Tech responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the third.

Arkansas State continued its offensive momentum in the fourth inning with three consecutive singles that drove in another run and forced Louisiana Tech to change pitchers. The Red Wolves added another run with a fourth straight single before Evan Griffis hit a bases-clearing triple, increasing their lead to 7-1. Louisiana Tech managed another solo home run as their only answer.

Collin Maloney started for Arkansas State, pitching four innings and allowing five hits and two runs while striking out three batters. Tyler Weimer took over from Maloney and pitched 4.1 innings, giving up just one hit and one run while striking out three batters to earn his first win of the season.

Patrick Engskov contributed to Arkansas State’s lead by hitting a home run at the start of the final frame. Cooper Garrison came in as relief pitcher and closed out the game by inducing a double play for the second consecutive contest.

Tyler Weimer was credited with his first win of the season, while Hudson Rowan took the loss for Louisiana Tech.

Arkansas State will continue its road trip with a weekend series against Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, beginning Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m.
