Arkansas State University’s baseball team achieved a significant milestone by defeating the sixth-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks 12-4 at Baum-Walker Stadium on Tuesday. This victory marks the Red Wolves’ first win over Arkansas in program history and matches their third-highest ranked win overall.
The game saw Arkansas take an early lead with a solo home run, but Arkansas State responded quickly in the second inning. Aidan Houseworth tied the game with a home run to left center, followed by singles that set up Raul Torres to give A-State the advantage. Ashton Quiller then hit a grand slam, extending the Red Wolves’ lead to 6-1.
Andrew Allen started as pitcher for Arkansas State, striking out three batters and allowing four hits and two runs. In the following innings, Cross Jumper added two home runs while Lane Walton contributed another solo shot. Brett Foss pitched through three innings, giving up two hits and one run with three strikeouts.
Houseworth hit an RBI double in the seventh inning and later scored on Jumper’s second homer of the day, bringing the score to 11-3. Cooper Garrison pitched the final four innings for Arkansas State, allowing just two runners on base and striking out three.
In the eighth inning, Arkansas State loaded the bases and scored another run on a wild pitch. Garrison closed out the game after allowing only one more run from Arkansas in a ninth-inning rally.
Brett Foss was credited with his first win of the season while Peyton Lee took the loss for Arkansas. Cooper Garrison earned his first save.
