5 Pioneers Honored with Post-Season Awards

Men’s and Women’s Basketball had their seasons end in the first round of the Continental Athletic Conference Tournament this past weekend. The #6 seeded Men’s team was defeated by #3 Washington Adventist and the #4 seeded Women were bested by #5 Arkansas Baptist on Friday, February 24th. Though the 2023 season is now in the review mirror 5 Pioneers were honored with awards for their efforts throughout the season.

Men’s Basketball

The Roberson brothers claimed the spotlight as they were the only two Pioneers to be recognized in the post-season awards. Bo Roberson was awarded 2nd team all-conference for his game on the court in the 2022-23 season. Bo Averaged 16 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists over 28 games. The junior produced a 49.5 field-goal percentage while shooting 68.3 percent from the charity stripe totaling 436 points and 154 rebounds. During his junior year, Bo became the all-time scoring leader at CRC passing TeWayne Smith (1,469).

Ke Roberson was awarded the Champions of Character award. This award signifies that Ke’s teammates, coaches, classmates, and Professors alike found that he always exemplified the 5 core qualities of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership on and off the court.

Women’s Basketball

Lady Pioneer Basketball had three players recognized with post-season honors. 2 were awarded 2nd team all-conference. Senior Octavia Lowery averaged 12 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists over a 26-game span. Lowery shot 38.4% from the field, 30.4% from behind the arc, and 80.5% from the free throw line collecting 312 points and 164 rebounds on the season. Freshmen Hunter Gibson also claimed a 2nd team spot by averaging 13.2 points per game, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists over 28 games. The freshmen shot 37.3% from the field, 32.7% from behind the arc, and 84.0% from the free throw line. Gibson led all Lady Pioneers in scoring being 22 points shy of 400 with 378. Gibson also led in rebounds with 180 for the year.

Like Ke Roberson, the NAIA also recognized Lindsey Browning as a Champion of Character as she constantly exemplifies the 5 characteristics of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant leadership in every aspect of her life.

All five of these student-athletes played a huge role in the success of the 2023 Pioneer Basketball seasons.
